"John Goodwin, the music h'brarian for Jaco's music, also helped out a great deal as well as Jim Roberts, editor of Bass Player magazine. Jim saved me a lot of time by getting me the 'names of John Goodwin, the lawyers and all these different people we had to deal with. "The Jamerson bass is basically done and we received the first shipment in late December. The Jaco bass was about two months behind the Jamerson one. We're timing it with the current issue of Bass Player Magazine which happens to be a Jaco issue and we're giving one away in it.

"The Jamerson Tribute Bass will sell for $1,575 and the Jaco Pastorius Signature Bass for somewhere between $2,000 to $2,500 because it was a lot more expensive to produce. "The Jamerson bass comes with its original black case with a reddish-orange interior. The Jaco bass has the old brown case with the gold interior. "James Jamerson. Jr. will sign the certificate of authenticity for his father's basses and Kevin Kaufman will sign the certificates for the Jaco bass. Each bass l will be numbered from 001-100 on the, back plate. "The only thing we didn't do is put in the nicks and scratches that the originals had," said Maury, "These will be quite the collector's package."


The Bass Centre has put together a truly impressive special reissue project. They have arranged as exact a replica as possible, after countless hours of extensive research, of James Jamerson's '62 Precision Bass and Jaco Pastorius' '62 Jazz Bass. Both basses Will be handmade by the Fender Custom Shop of Fender Musical Instruments and only 100 of each will be made. The basses are each authorized by the respective
estates of Jamerson and Pastorius with a percentage of the sales profits going to the families of the estates. "We wanted to make the absolute best instrument possible that would be a replica of what Jaco used and what Jamerson used," said Chris Maury, manager of The Bass Centre in Studio City, California.
